A primeira coleção do Sutta Piṭaka reúne os 34 discursos mais longos atribuídos ao Buda. Entre eles estão o Brahmajāla Sutta, sobre as opiniões filosóficas da época; o Sāmaññaphala Sutta, sobre os frutos da vida contemplativa; o Mahāparinibbāna Sutta, que narra os últimos meses do Buda; e o Mahāsatipaṭṭhāna Sutta, sobre os fundamentos da atenção plena.

Faz parte do Tipitaka ("três cestos"), o cânon páli do budismo Theravāda, transmitido oralmente e posto por escrito no Sri Lanka no século I a.C. O texto páli é o da edição Mahāsaṅgīti; as traduções são do SuttaCentral, dedicadas ao domínio público (CC0) pelos tradutores.
